Telling Secrets

My daughter is going to be two next month.

We were working on the concept of telling "secrets" - whispering in someone's ear. When I told her I was going to tell her a secret - told her one.

I then told her, to tell me a secret. :)
She leaned forward, put her face to my ear and [very cutely] said

"secret"

we have not eaten at the Cheesecake Factory since...

I had gotten a call from some college friends who wanted to get together for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Being a stay-at-home mom I was thrilled to get an invitation for a meal out. Unfortuntely the hubby was out of town on business and had no one else to watch my kids. So, I packed up the 2 kid took them with me. Dinner was pretty good, the kids behaved themselves as well as a 1 and 3 year old can. Toward the end my son kept telling me he had to pee, but I was caught up in conversation and decided he could wait a few more minutes. I was in the middle of telling a story when I heard a gasp. I looked over to find my 3 year old son had whipped it out and was peeing IN the vent next to our booth.

Needless to say we have not eaten at the Cheesecake Factory since.

My hoo ha is MAGIC!

This morning - I decided Id take advantage of the fact that Torrae doesnt watch much television...so when she does, shes immobile and engrossed for 20 minutes while she watches a show - so I could take a shower...

I turned on Blues clues and she had been drinking some milk in a sippy cup and it was almost gone so I grabbed it and filled it back up before I headed upstairs and she was totally oblivious to me taking it and replacing it between her legs while she sat hypnotized by the noise box...

Im in the shower for about 2 minutes and Torrae comes running up the stairs shouting "MOMMA!! MOMMA!!" and of course I am freaking out and thinking something happened and when she bursts into the bathroom with a huggggggggggge smile on her face and wide eyes and exclaims:

"MOM!! My hoo ha is MAGIC!! My hoo ha made MILK FOR ME!!!"

Shes gonna tell everyone...I just know it!
(she doesnt believe me that I refilled her cup...its DEFINATELY her magical hoo ha of wonder and awe...) Oh my...

So Sorry.

I have let this thing go! :( Noooooooooo. I know, right!?

I've just been employed with the County in my hometown and now work 8-5, with NO internet access at home. crazy.. right?

SO I'm still posting stories, as I get them... just not actively searching for them like I was before.

Feel free to abandon me, or un-follow me, but I will be back.

oh don't you worry! We'll be back!

What would you be?

Lately Amiya has been on a kick where she is constantly asking us, if
we were something what would we be. Here is a snippet of our
conversation tonight while she was getting ready for bed.

Amiya: If you were an animal what would you be?

Me: I would probably be a giraffe, what about you?

Amiya: I would be a hippo; do you want to know why?

Me: Sure why?

Amiya: I would be big and fat and no one would mess with me and I
could lay around in a pond and do nothing all day.

Me: That sounds like a good idea.

Amiya: Yep! If you were a car what would you be?

Me: Probably a BMW.

Amiya: Whats that?

Me: An expensive car.

Amiya: Oh one that has TVs that come down from the ceiling and a bar
thingy where you can make grown up drinks?

Me: Well I don’t know about that, but I would be a convertible

Amiya: Yeah that would be good having the sun in your hair, you know
what I would be?

Me: What would you be?

Amiya: I would be a minivan.

Me: A minivan, why?

Amiya: Mom, haven’t you seen the new one on TV where the seats spin
around and there’s a table that folds up, if you get hungry you can
just stop your car turn around and eat your dinner there or play board
games like Sorry, now that is a fancy car!!!

Yep Sure is!!!

At least I wasn't driving.. I would have crashed!

My 3 year old daughter is going to the Montessori school and they have all these cool gadgets and gizmos and puzzles and books and awesome learning toys - and as per usual - I asked Torrae what she did in school today...she was really struggling to come up with the right word to describe the thing she had been playing with. She was making this horrible frustrated face and moving her hands in little circles and motioning to try to encourage me to guess what it was she was trying to say.

After a few seconds she stopped and instead of a furrowed frustrated brow, she opened her eyes real wide, smiled a huge smile and said matter of factly "Matthew and I screwed!"

At least I wasnt driving this time. I would have crashed! It was hilarious - mostly because my first thought was - man...Im so glad shes not 15 right now...it would be a whole different meaning.

(they had a little tool shop area where they could use screw drivers and screw bolts into wood and take them out again...*WHEW*)

Monday it is...

One day my 3-yr-old daughter says out of the blue as I walk past her...

"I can't wait to be older and have a big butt like you and daddy!"

I texed my husband what she had said, and he texed back "Monday it is..." (to start working out.)

You are my bestest friend.

Today my 4 year old son, Drew told me that he wanted to go to College.
"Well, one day you will be able to go to College, Drew," I told him.
"I want to go to College with you, Mommy, because you are my bestest friend."
"Okay honey," I told him. "I will remind you when you are 18 that you want to go College with me."

The kid dropped a load on me.

I have mentioned before that after bath time the G-man enjoys streaking. There is nothing the boy likes better than sprinting up and down the hallway buck naked, squealing in delight and tacking mommy or daddy when he gets to the end of the hallway. I of course have realized that this probably is not the best idea. I was aware of the risks involved in allowing an 18 month old to streak. But he gets such joy out of it that we have allowed him to spend a few minutes streaking in the evening after getting out of the bath. Plus, it really wears him out and he is ready for bed when he is done!

So, last night after his bath, before diapering and jammies he was spending a few minutes running the hallway, letting it all hang out. Andy was in G-man's room and I was at the other end of the hallway, so he made about 10 trips back and forth down the hallway between us. He also decided to drag his giant 6 foot stuffed snake along with him. On occasion it caused him to trip, but he handled it well. He realizes that is one of the risks associated with streaking with a giant snake.

Anyway, it was getting close to bedtime. He was getting ready to make a final streak down the hallway to daddy. He had to step over my leg. All of a sudden, as he was straddling my leg, he got a bit of a puzzled look on his face. Looking back, it may have been a look of concentration. Anyway, it was at that moment that he let loose! THE KID DROPPED A LOAD ON ME!!! Now, when I say load, I am not referring to a small turn, this was a HUGE poop! Like adult size!

I screamed! I didn't mean to, but it was like seeing a bat flying around my house, it scared the poop out of me (not literally, thank God, I already had enough of a mess to clean up). So, I am covered in poop, as is the snake, screaming "He's pooping on me, he's pooping on me!!!". And do you know what Andy did? He laughed! He thought it was the funniest thing ever that I had been soiled! I was not pleased! Poor little G-man seemed to feel bad about dropping a load on me and he started crying. I'm sure my scream didn't help with that.

So, Andy took the G-man to get cleaned up and put on a much needed diaper. I changed my clothes and put the poor snake in the wash. The G-man wanted to give me hugs after the incident. He must have felt bad! So, that is my story!
Moral: just because streaking is fun doesn't mean you should let your kid do it!

You're really old mom.

Conversation with the 11 year old who has an obsession as of late with
wars and the military...

Arryn: Mom who all do you know that served in Desert Storm?

Me: Well Papap did, he went to Kuwait, and Catherine's Dad went to
Germany to help out there.

Arryn: Well who do you know other than them that went over there?

Me: Well that is about it, dad's friend Doug I think may have went.

Arryn: Did any of your friends go?

Me: Well no Arryn.

Arryn: But I thought you had friends who were in the military, didn't
they go over?

Me: Arryn, Desert Storm was in 1990/1991 I was in the 8th grade during
Desert Storm and so were most of my friends who are in the military.

Arryn: Oh, wow you're really old mom.

Um yea that's all I needed to hear into my 32nd year of life.

I am thinking of the line from Deanna Carter's song Strawberry Wine,
which came out around the time I was 19 or so, it goes....

"I still remember, when thirty was old."

I clearly remember thinking at the time, yep I don't want to think
about when I will be 30!!!

I made it!!

My daughter keeps me on my toes...
Her name is Torrae. (sounds like Tore-Ray) She is 3 now. I know I have many more years of entertainment ahead...and I cant wait.
This is probably one of my favorite stories to share - and one I will probably torture her with for ...forever :)

My daughter and I have been spending most of our days doing craft projects, painting pictures, drawing, making sticker pages, and various other artsy things while her brothers are away at school for the day...

She painted a lovely picture and every once in a while she would pause to say "its beautiful mommy, is it beautiful?" or "look!!! I made it!" and of course I would respond with a "Yes! It IS beautiful!" or a "you sure did!! Good job!" and after the paint was dry I tried to put the painting on the fridge only to get a "NO!! Its mine!! I made it!!" and had to chase her around the house to get it from her... but eventually she let me display her creativity on the food box for all to see and made sure to show everyone that walked into the house her beautiful painting...

So she's been making things and creating things and has now started declaring her ownership of said creations once she's finished them.

Well that's fine and all – except one day, while I was making lunch in the kitchen, she was in the living room by herself, drawing a picture...

Or so I thought.

I hear "Look mom!! Its beautiful!" and I of course cant see her at the moment so I shout back "Yes sweetie!! It sure is!!" and I hear a few giggles and a "I made it!!!" and I ask her what she made and I get:

"My poop!"

My heart stopped there for a minute and I slowly walked to the living room to find my daughter – diaperless, sitting on the hardwood floors (thank goodness for hardwood floors), holding a giant "present" in her hands, turning it over and over, and giggling with delight at her "creation"... (mind you it WAS all speckled with orange carrot pieces and some yellow corn...so technically it WAS kind of pretty...ahem)

When I said "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" she got up faster than fast, grabbed the dirty diaper in one hand, the turd in the other and ran into her room screaming "NO!!! Its MINE!! I MAAAAAAADE IT!!!"

Needless to say she got a bath, I gagged alot and wished someone had been home to take a picture.

Boy would that have been a picture.

Bugs

One morning I woke up nauseated and dizzy. To put it simply, I felt like a pile of crap. My sweet husband took Monkey out shopping, and I spent the day on the couch. When Monkey came home, I warned him not to drink after me because I had picked up a bug.

Monkey: Why did you pick up a bug?

Me: It's just what you say when you feel sick.

Monkey: Well, you shouldn't pick up sick bugs. Let their mommies take care of them.

I could not have said it any better myself.

When they get quiet

I was cleaning the kitchen and Mercy got really quiet. Like, REALLY quiet. You know, the kind of quiet that just SCREAMS, "I'm up to something...you better come find me! QUICK!"

Well, I didn't notice just how quiet she was until she came into the kitchen...

This is what she looked like.

The little stinker got into the diaper cream!

I don't know how she got it open...I always thought the container was hard to open. Well, she didn't seem to have any problems with it!

When I got the camera and asked her to show me where she got the fancy cream for her face she sat right down with the diaper bag, pulled out the cream, opened it and started to "apply" it to her face! She must have been copying me! (btw...she LOVES lotion...)

Anyway, isn't that the way it is with little ones? Never a dull moment!

She Really Was...

One of the very dignified elders at our church grabbed my cute little girl Brandy, lifted her above his head, turned her over so that her dress fell over her head.....

Only to discover that somewhere between my house, and that minute she had shed her underwear in an undisclosed location...

and it could have been the shocked gasps...and silence as mortified I said....

"she really was wearing underwear..."

Looking For What He Lost

From the other room, I heard my husband tell Monkey that he could not get his sleeping bag down from the top of his closet. He wanted him to pick up the toys all over the living room floor first. A few minutes later I heard some rustling coming from the direction of Monkey's room, then a crash and a thud.

Yep, you guessed it. He decided that he was too going to get his sleeping bag down from the top of the closet, even if dad had said "No". In the process, he lost his balance and fell off the chair he was climbing on, scratching his leg up pretty badly. As we were cleaning it up and applying Triple Antibiotic Ointment and bandaids, Carl commented that it looked like it had just peeled the first layer of skin right off. I agreed.

Later, after the tears were dried and he was feeling better, I found Monkey rooting around in his room. I asked him what he was looking for. He looked up at me, replied, "My skin," and kept on digging.

I Double Dare You

This conversation occurred while my 2 year old daughter was rubbing my belly. It seems her 5 year old brother has convinced her that my pregnancy is a scam and I am just fat.

Daughter: "What's in your stomach?"
Mommy: "Two babies."
Daughter: "Two babies?"
Mommy: "Yes."
Daughter: "Jordan said you just fat."
Mommy: "No, I am not just fat. I have two babies in my stomach."
Daughter: "Prove it."

Seasons

This morning I was homeschooling Caleb, our Kindergartener. We were talking about the different seasons, and I asked him if he could name the seasons. He sat and pondered for a moment, and then he said, “Open Season?” Hubby and I both laughed. We love this movie, and I guess he’s watched it a little too much if he thinks it’s an ACTUAL season. After calming our laughs, we continued our discussion, and he finally remembered the 4 seasons. :)
